The people featured in this Young,
Gifted and Fresh interview series are not necessarily what most people would
consider to be accomplished, because the majority of society equates a sizable
bank account as the only measurement of notable success. Instead, they are
featured because they have veered from the beaten path and decided to take the
road less traveled.
Life is a journey is as clichéd a
phrase as one could imagine, but sometimes there is profound truth in
simplicity. Life's journey is complex, and a formidable burden, especially when
there are no guarantees having not been born with a silver spoon. The Young,
Gifted and Fresh that are featured are in the process of making their own way
and living out their dreams.
Nicole Richardson
Nicole Richardson is a fashion industry rising star. She is hard at work trying to create and master her own brand. She dreams of running her own business from the comforts of her own home and being the curator of her daily schedule. Although she is always stylish, Nicole has a fashion sense that isn't genre specific-she is a lady after my own heart.
What service(s) do you offer?
Marie
Rich Image Consulting offers Personal Shopping, Makeup Services,
Wardrobe/Closet Editing and Style Consultations.
What motivates you?
Honestly,
something new motivates me every day, but the main thing with my business
that motivates me is being my own boss and laying out my own vision without
having to take direction from anyone else.
Who inspires you?
My mother and grandmother are my main inspirations.
Oprah Winfrey, Beyoncé, my fiancé--pretty much anyone who works extremely hard
and accepts a challenge.
Describe your personal style.
I
don't really have one, but I'd say I'm a mixture of conservative, bohemian and
street chic. I truly do live by the motto that I tell clients: "Dress how
you want to feel for the day."
Pursuing a dream can sometimes feel
like chasing the wind. What advice do you have for those in pursuit of theirs?
Pursuing
a dream takes time. Some days you feel like, "why am I doing this--is this
truly my purpose?" and other days you'll feel like "Yes!! I'm
quitting my full-time job; this is what I'm supposed to be doing". Just
keep going and remember who gave you the vision. If God keeps beating you in
the head with the dream, it’s probably meant for you to chase it. Don't expect
immediate results--patience is the key to not give up. Set (write down)
short-term goals and long-term goals and put them somewhere you'll get tired of
seeing them. Be nice to everyone you meet! And lastly and probably most
importantly: BE CONFIDENT IN YOUR VISION--don't compare yourself to
others.
What is your dream job?
My
dream job is to be a full-time image consultant in the DMV (District of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia) area. I would like
to eventually hire other consultants under me and establish an entire
firm.
Tell me about your recent trip to
NYC.
My
recent trip to New York was awesome! One of my biggest personal issues as a
business person is NETWORKING (another piece of advice for anyone pursuing a
dream) and so I told myself that this year I need to go somewhere new and talk
to people that share similar goals. Simply Stylist is a networking company that
connects aspiring stylists, fashion and beauty bloggers and other types of
companies centered around fashion to people who are already working in the
industry. This conference had panel discussions with the industry professionals
and they gave loads of insight. It was a great opportunity to connect with
people on my level and those who are extremely successful. This southern girl
did some talking and handed out her business card! It was a great
experience.
If you could create your dream
celebrity client list, who would it consist of and why?
Tracee Ellis Ross- she is hilarious and
just seems very open-minded with her style but chic at the same time. Solange-
I have always loved her unique, funky style. Julia Roberts- she's just
gorgeous to me. I'd like to dress her for the red carpet. Lupita Nyong'o- she
has the most beautiful skin and I'd put vibrant colors on her. There are
probably a lot more!
Are there any current projects that
you are working on?
Not at the moment. I'm just really trying to stay consistent and build the brand so that I can get a true client-base.
Where do you see yourself in 10
years?
In
10 years I will be 37. Whoa! I would love to be working from home and creating
my own daily schedule with clients. Hopefully I will have 2 children by then
with my fiancé. So, I see myself with a very busy life in 10 years.
What would you like Faith and Stars'
Readers to know about you?
I'm
just a regular young woman who loves food, shopping and being a girl. My goal
isn't to be famous or seen. I just want to help people feel more confident in
themselves when getting dressed every day. That’s honestly my ultimate purpose
with Marie Rich.
Although Nicole is motivated to change her life and live by her own rules, she doesn't feel it necessary to change who she is to make it to where she wants to go. Her willingness to share her journey, although in the beginning stages, is a testament to the easy-going, transparency of her personality. The most important aspect to note from Nicole is that she is a dream chaser with a beautiful spirit and a great plan.
